Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

A Nissan for everyone

Nissan Canada is committed to a future where everyone can thrive. We aspire to lead by example, driving a diverse, equitable and inclusive culture that reflects and strengthens our communities.

A Great Place to Work

Our One Culture Team’s focus is our employees, and creating a culture where everyone is celebrated. We do that by gathering employee feedback and developing action plans to make our company even better. And the effort put into making Nissan Canada a welcoming and rewarding place to build a career hasn’t gone unnoticed. For the last four years running, we’ve been awarded a Great Place to Work certification – and we have every intention of making it five.

Our guiding principles

Life at Nissan is mindful of life outside of Nissan. Employees, dealers, customers, vendors – at the end of the day, we’re all connected. Our shared values unite us in a common purpose and remind us that power comes from inside. That’s the Nissan Way.

1. Always think of the customer

The more understanding we are of who people are, what their experience has been and what motivates them, the better we can meet their needs – fairly and honestly.

2. Show facts, face reality

It’s easy for companies to lose sight of who we’re doing business with. By listening and being honest with ourselves and the people around us, we can create a better experience for everyone.

3. Be accountable, act proactively

Taking action is a bit like driving: it’s important to be aware of and to recognize the power you wield. It’s also important to know when to stop, when to go and when to let others pass.

4. Think outside the box

Different perspectives mean more and better ideas. If Nissan truly wants to innovate, we must have the courage and curiosity to embrace those perspectives.

5. Respect others, respect society

At every point on both sides of a business relationship, there are people deserving of equity and respect. That goes for our employees, customers, dealers and suppliers.

Life at Nissan

Embracing diversity

At Nissan, we want to do more than just celebrate diversity. We are changing our corporate culture and the way we work to ensure it is representative of all our employees. We want to make sure each member of the Nissan family feels like they can bring their authentic self to work. We create opportunities for our employees through networking, executive chats, anniversary celebrations, employee spotlights, volunteer opportunities, mentorship, donation drives and much more. The goal is to ensure everyone has a voice, and the ability to shape life at Nissan – together.

Learning and development

Our learning and education programs ensure that employees have the skills and knowledge to be and bring out the best in themselves and others. The program helps us build and maintain a respectful work environment by demonstrating how understanding, valuing and leveraging differences is key to competing in an ever-changing marketplace.

Business Synergy Teams

All for one

Business Synergy Teams (BST) connect diverse groups of employees with shared interests into high-functioning groups. These BSTs focus on supporting the members’ achievements and professional goals through educational events, networking and workplace celebrations. Since the first BST launched in 2007, Nissan employees have embraced these groups with more participation, engagement and events every year.

Nissan Canada Foundation

Giving back to our communities

One of Nissan’s global visions is “to improve the quality of life in the communities in which Nissan operates.” To bring this vision to fruition, the Nissan Canada Foundation was created in 1993. Its goal: to improve communities through charitable contributions, volunteering and in-kind donations to non-profit organizations that focus on the environment, humanitarian aid and education.

Empowering new generations

Nissan partners with a number of post-secondary institutions in order to offer meaningful opportunities to deserving students. For the trades, we established a parts donation program that provides hands-on learning materials. For early education, we support STEM programs at low-income schools to inspire the next generation to pursue science, technology, engineering and math. We also support post-secondary students by offering several scholarships at Georgian College Automotive School of Canada.

Best of Nissan

It takes a village

Nissan’s diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives are powered by the people who work here. As the proud employer and supporter of so many kind, capable and giving individuals, it’s only fitting that we end this page by celebrating them and everything they do for the people in their communities.
